"O Say, Can You Remember the Words?" is the tenth episode of season 1. The episode title refers to Francis Scott Key's poem "The Star-Spangled Banner" which became the United States national anthem.

Miley, Lilly, and Oliver are in drama class, doing exercises. When their teacher announces they will be doing Romeo and Juliet, both Miley and Lilly are reluctant to end up with Oliver as their partner. However, Miley ends up with Oliver. They start working on the play, but Oliver can't focus, and keeps making silly jokes. Miley soon finds out, that due to an experience a long time ago, Oliver can't be serious in front of an audience. She gets mad that he is never serious and tells her father she will bail on him, just as Oliver is coming into the room. Oliver gets mad too.

Later, at a game, Miley sings "The Star Spangled Banner", and sings the wrong words because she is so distracted. She is nationally embarrassed. Miley stays in the fight with Oliver, until she goes on a show called Top Rockers. She is afraid she will mess up again, but Lilly, dressed as Lola in a purple wig, brings very large cards with her lyrics on them. However, these lyrics get blocked by many different people, and Hannah finally falls down, and messes up her song. Then Oliver starts singing along, and so does everyone else, and Miley remembers the lyrics. In the end, Miley apologizes to Oliver.

In a subplot, Jackson has to cure Rico's candy habit after a bad trip to the dentist, but this soon becomes his own obsession as he becomes more addicted to candy than Rico was. Then Jackson has a dream that he will get really fat and Rico will get very strong. Jackson wakes up and tries to stop eating junk food. While watching his sister's concert and eating carrots, he has a hallucination that the pillows on the couch are talking chocolate bunnies.

  • In real life, Miley sang the National Anthem at the White House without making any mistakes.
