Plot Summary

Mike Pillsbury is a precocious kid who never felt like he belonged on earth. He tries to win the heart of his love interest, Kate Sandman by helping out with the Halloween Dance, which gets sabotaged by Mike's rival, Scott. Humiliated, Mike sends a message into outer space asking to be rescued from Earth, not knowing that actual aliens will hear him and come down to Earth, causing all kinds of new problems.

Things get worse when the Thoad arrives to claim Mike for his zoo. His friend's brother gets kidnapped, and with help from one of the aliens disguised as a dog, and his rival, he manages to travel to the Thoad homeworld and rescue his friend's brother and all of the creatures trapped in the zoo. The Thoad follows them back to Earth and attempts to drag Mike with him back to his homeworld, but the dog, Barnabus, calls the Intergalactic Police and an officer shows up to stop and arrest the Thoad who is taken into custody.

At the end of the movie, Barnabus asks Mike to go with him to his home planet, and Mike answers "Earth is my home." Barnabus accepts this with grace, and allows Mike to scratch him behind the ears (something he previously forbade) before they both say goodbye.
